The Time is Coming!

We have watched our children on the Autism Spectrum grow and grow. Some have been able to leave the Autism Spectrum and lead entirely self-sufficient lives. There are others that certainly can lead sufficient lives with some help, and yet others, who will need constant supervision and help with day to day activities of daily living. My son belongs to the latter. With his diabetes requiring 5 injections a day, thyroid medications, and supplements, he is one of the many who is going to require substantial support as he grows into adulthood. He is not the only one growing! HIs parents are too (my wife vehemently denies this!).

There are many facilities that cater to the wonderful high functioning adults with Autism, but what about the rest? Those who are life long learners, but need support? Those who need help with the activities of daily living, but are still able to learn and grow? Very FEW facilities exist. Especially if there are mediations to give (think diabetes, seizure medications, special diets etc).

I would like to introduce you to Home life Community. The brainchild of my wife and I. Here is our vision:

Second Home is a full-time community of adults who are on the Autism Spectrum. It is a place where our adult children can come together and form social connections, continue to develop academic and communicative skills along pathways developed to challenge the mind through art, music, and physical health. Most importantly, this is a place called HOME. Safe, secure, and nurturing.

Once we develop the concept to facility, we plan to put this into a “Home Life in a Box” to help others replicate what we are doing over America and even the world.

We have done the research. We have formed a Non-profit 501 C3 corporation. Now, it is time to put together a Board of Directors.
